I co-write weekly with a friend who also writes daily pantoums. Lately, she’s been using a lines from Rumi poetry as her starting point. What a grand idea! When we met this afternoon, I took her lead and wrote this.
Pantoum #175/365
There is a voice that doesn’t use words
Who needs sound at all
When the body can speak in tongues
Be fluent in your secret vernacular
Who needs sound at all
When the silence between us is deafening
Be fluent in your secret vernacular
Leaf through the lexicon of longing
When the silence between us is deafening
The body can speak in tongues
Leaf through the lexicon of longing
There is a voice that doesn’t use words
Invitation:
Write a voice that doesn’t use words.
Begin with a sensation.
Let your body say something on the page.
See you next time for #176/365
