I’m never wrong. By the end of the year, I’ve forgotten my verb. I look back in my journal/sketchbook and am always so pleased to find I had chosen the PERFECT one.
This year, I was set on the verb “close”. I had some doors in my life that had been ajar for two long. The draft was chilly and it was time to latch them. No deadbolts, just some clear boundaries and limits to allow for some tender self care.
On Dec 31st, I even jotted down a pantoum about it.
Close the door.
A new year, a new verb.
I’m sick of half-open hopes and dreams
Just shut out the draft of distraction.
A new year, a new verb.
Cinch the loose knots into a daisy chain of opportunity
Just shut out the draft of distraction
Keep leaning into the others’ blowback…. OR

Close the door.
Then, it was New Year’s Day. I had chimed in 2025 with my art chum Chris Larsen at her River’s Edge Studio. As usual, we spent time sketching together.
I was drawing my knitting project, thinking about that “daisy chain of opportunity” and how CLOSE, didn’t feel like the right verb. I ended up writing this pantoum instead - deciding without a doubt, my 2025 verb would be UNRAVEL.
As I begin this Substack, I lean into the unknown, blown by a breeze of curiosity to see what will indeed unravel. I invite you to join me in the unwinding of our stories through image and word. I know great things happen when I show up consistently in my little quilted fort. I’m excited to share the unexpected with you.
So, my friends…. what is your verb? Place it in the comments, with or without explanation.
Btw…. I posted this as a podcast by mistake. I’m riding the Substack learning curve.
